Pottery Barn has been associated with Michael Graves Design, a leader in accessible design innovation, to create a collection of accessible furniture that does not sacrifice a beautiful design.

Michael Graves Design It was founded by Michael Graves, an outstanding architect and designer who has been a wheelchair user from a 2003 spinal cord infection. His firm collaborated with Pottery Barn to investigate, try and design the new furniture line, which, which It presents upholstered armchairs, as well as articles of the best -selling bedroom collections of Pottery Barn. A diverse group of users, including people with disabilities and older adults, had the opportunity to test the initial prototype designs. The design team used research and ideas collected from consumer tests to make accessibility improvements in some of Pottery Barn’s most popular collections, as well as developing new designs.
Some of the functional improvements of Michael Graves’ design collaboration include:
- Players and night tables with easiest pulls for the opening of drawers with one hand.
- The comfortable with 9 inches of free space on the ground, allowing wheelchair users best free space for their feet.
- Dresser seats, which provides convenient seats for dressing.
- Optimized foam density armchairs, seat height, seat depth, standing height and extension contact points that allow a more supported position to enter and leave a chair.
- Bed frames with integrated armrests and “side and pulling handles” to support sitting up, standing and repositioning in bed.
“The collaboration with the design of Michael Graves has deepened our commitment to accessible designs with the aim of improving the lives of consumers who live with disabilities, injuries or aging in the place at home without sacrificing quality or style,” Monica Bhargava, president of Pottery Barn says.
