Folding a more affordable wheelchair
A new wheelchair prototype from wheelchair user and assistive technology pioneer Rory Cooper is inspired by the cutting and folding of Japanese kirigami paper. This unique technique allows Cooper’s team to produce a custom wheelchair in four hours or less using a single sheet of aluminum. They hope the technique can help make manual wheelchairs more affordable.

American Airlines fined $50 million for violating wheelchair users’ rights
Last week, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a $50 million fine against American Airlines, the largest fine ever imposed by the DOT for disability violations. He also acknowledged that the problem is not limited to American Airlines and that the department has active investigations into violations committed by other airlines.
