Seventeen states are demanding the United States government to repeal section 504 of the 1973 rehabilitation law. This fundamental law protects people with discrimination from discrimination by federal agencies and for schools, hospitals, medical offices and other entities that receive federal funds or accept state medical insurance. A precursor of the ADA, section 504 provides the basis of civil rights.
