Midwinter Lately • Kath Eats

Snowmageddon came to Charlottesville at the end of winter break. There’s some life here lately!

Snowmageddon

No, the snow wasn’t really that high, but the snowplows have formed several giant mountains in the city! And it really hasn’t been above freezing for two weeks, so it’s all still there. The good news is that the kids have been sledding a TON and we are loving the winter life now that they are in school all day and sledding in the afternoons.

snow house

Melting snow house

The ice on the roof is very scary! I was almost hit from a downtown building with something that could have killed me or someone else if it had fallen on my head. We have snow guards on the front roof, but it’s still falling apart!

Cozy interior

Meanwhile, inside, things have been very cozy! Freshly made snuggle bed:

Warming up with a sauna blanket!

The perfect trick for a snow day is to have someone warm sauna blanket And head inside for a quick warm-up from your feet to your hands! I worked there one morning when I was cold.

book time

Birch and I brought a bunch of books to my bed to read, and he read this Star Wars phonics book all by himself! Great gift for a 5-6 year old who loves Star Wars.

Puzzle season!

Minecraft puzzle with Birch. I even like doing puzzles for kids!

ACAC Photo Puzzle

This former ACAC group puzzle from a 2015 photo was a birthday gift! It was exciting to bring together people I know.

plant ladies

I’m loving this Plant Ladies puzzle I borrowed it from Ellen. The colors are similar, but the patterns are all different!

wooden puzzle

And lastly, have you tried it? wooden puzzle??? Instead of cardboard the pieces are thick and wooden. I felt like I was in a Survivor challenge! The puzzle moves around a bit, but it is VERY satisfying to put the pieces together. this sailboat It was a gift for Birch, and I just bought this butterfly too!

send hugs

Nona and Birch made this art project together: Send a hug in the mail with life-sized arms and hands.

Not broken

And speaking of hands, Mazen’s wrist isn’t broken! He fell in the gym and heard a crunch, which led to an interesting afternoon of x-rays. Luckily, he only had to wear a brace for a few days.

If you have dry hands or super dry skin this time of year, try the new Biome Body Butter of dime coin. They sent me a sample and it’s amazing! Something like a lotion and a balm. It applies like a lotion but has the staying power of a balm. Get 20% off with code katheats and my link.

Brunch

Katie, Sean and I went to the restaurant at the Kimpton Hotel. Birch and flower for lunch. Highly recommended! That avocado toast was delicious. (Get it?!)

First basketball game

went back to Birch and Bloom for drinks before Sean’s first basketball game. Holly went to UVA and Katie grew up here, so they had been many times. It was 9pm and too late for me, but we had a great time eating ice cream and watching the Hoos come back and almost win it.

Yoga Glow

Another fun indoor event: Glow Yoga at ACAC!

We had body painting and a great vinyasa class with Liz on a Saturday night.
