Providence Forms Joint Venture With Compassus for Home Care

Providence Health System is forming a joint venture with home care provider Compassus for home care, palliative care, community-based palliative care and private care services.

Under the agreement, Tennessee-based Compassus will assume management of operations for Providence’s 24 home care centers in Alaska, California, Oregon and Washington, and 17 hospice and palliative care centers in Alaska, California , Oregon, Texas and Washington. The joint venture will also include private services in Southern California.

Compassus provides home care services including home health, home infusion, palliative care, and palliative care in more than 270 locations in 30 states. Compassus has formed similar joint ventures with nonprofit health systems, including Ascension, Bon Secours Mercy Health and OhioHealth.

Renton, Washington-based Providence said it chose this joint venture because Compassus brings a proven track record of high-quality home care, as well as technology and devices that will further support nurses and other caregivers providing care in the home.

“Serving people in their homes, many of whom are most vulnerable, is sacred work and a deeply rooted part of Providence’s mission. As our communities age, we have been carefully evaluating how to best meet the growing need for these services,” said Terri Warren, Providence’s chief of community services, in a statement. “Compassus shares our commitment to these services and will allow us to expand access to care from the comfort of home.”

Asselta joined Compassus this year after spending nearly eight years at Fresenius Medical Care North America, where he most recently served as COO of US Care Delivery and president of Fresenius Kidney Care.
