That is the title of a KFF article published last week. Results are based on KFF. 2024 Employer Health Benefits Survey. They write:
For the KFF survey of 2,142 randomly selected companies, officials at those with 500 or more employees were asked what share of discounts negotiated by [pharmacy benefit managers] The PBMs returned to the company as savings. About 19% said they received most refunds, 27% said some, and 16% said little. Thirty-seven percent of respondents did not know.
While a higher percentage of officials at larger companies said they got most or some of the refunds, the responses (and their contrast to testimony from PBM leaders) reflect employers’ confusion or ignorance about what they do. their drug benefit managers, according to the survey. leader Gary Claxton, senior vice president of KFF, a nonprofit health information organization that includes KFF Health News.
“I don’t think they’ll ever be able to know all the ways money moves because there are so many layers, between the wholesalers, the pharmacies and the manufacturers,” he said…“Employers in general are frustrated by the lack of transparency in all the pricing out there,” Claxton said. “They can’t really know what the truth is.”
