Have you ever peed your pants while exercising? If so, you may have heard that it’s normal after you’ve had children and as you get older. You may also have been told that you need to do Kegel exercises because bladder leaks mean your pelvic floor is weak. And if that’s you, you MUST LISTEN to this episode of the Fit Bottomed Girls Podcast because it’s all nonsense.
For a long time, women felt too embarrassed to talk about leaking urine and other signs of pelvic floor dysfunction. And so myths like the above persisted when women believed they “just had to deal with it,” wearing black leggings on jump rope days and wearing tights every day just in case. But you don’t need to suffer with leaks.
Additionally, if you’ve been dealing with persistent back pain, hip pain, and foot pain that isn’t fully responding to other treatments, it’s time to look at your pelvic floor muscles, which can contribute to all of the above.
in this episode, Dr. Melissa Oleson shares her story as a physical therapist in her 20s with pelvic floor issues, busts myths about pelvic floor and core dysfunction, and provides guidance on how to advocate for yourself as you navigate the healthcare system in search of answers.
