In The Self-Compassion Workbook, Dr. Kristin Neff offers a powerful mantra to say in these moments: “This is a time of suffering, can I be kind to myself?” Then, put your hand over your heart to activate oxytocin, the “love hormone.” Neff says, “…elevated levels of oxytocin greatly increase feelings of trust, calm, security, generosity, and connection, and facilitate the ability to feel warmth and compassion for ourselves.” Direct that toward your inner child who is working against your goal.
