Hey friends! Happy long weekend! I’m posting Friday’s favorites on a Saturday because it’s been a week (actually, several weeks!). The pilot finished three weeks of night flying, so we’ve had to be single parents since the girls started school. Earlier in the week, I noticed that Maisey’s mouth looked weird. She was showing her “teeth,” which made us laugh a lot, and I didn’t think much of it. The next day, she couldn’t close her mouth and was having difficulty eating and drinking.
We took her to the emergency vet and her blood work and vital signs were normal. They recommended checking her nose and throat to see if there was any blockage, so that’s what we did. They found nothing, gave us a huge bill, and sent us home with no answers.
The next day she hadn’t improved so we found another vet who could see her (we normally use a mobile vet service and they are great at doing checks but it’s impossible to get them in emergency situations). They were determined to find answers and took her back so all the vets in the practice could have a look and see what was going on.
He has trigeminal neuritis, also known as drop jaw, and it’s supposed to be temporary, with a full recovery expected in about two weeks. (Thank goodness.) They don’t know what may have caused it—it could be an autoimmune response or inflammation—and it tends to come on suddenly and then go away. I continue to pray for a full recovery. In the meantime, I’ve been mixing his dog food with organic beef broth, giving him coconut water to maintain electrolytes, and making sure he drinks plenty of water.
I spent several sleepless nights worrying about her, my car broke down too (it was fixed quickly, but it was a huge pain), and school and everything else has become chaos. I’ve been looking forward to the weekend and spending time with my friends, sleeping in, and catching up on life.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I’d love to hear what you have planned!
