Hello, hello! How are you? I hope you are having a wonderful weekend! I am stopping by to share one of my favorite homemade beauty products: turmeric face scrub.
Turmeric is a vibrant yellow spice derived from the root of the Curcuma longa plant. It belongs to the ginger family and has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic herbalism for its functional properties.* One of the key components of turmeric is curcumin, which is known to be a potent free radical scavenger.* It also supports immune system balance, a balanced response to environmental stressors, and has neuroprotective properties.*
Beyond its traditional culinary uses, turmeric can be incorporated into your daily routine in a variety of ways. You can find turmeric supplements in capsule or powder form, which can be added to smoothies, juices, soups, or even sprinkled on roasted vegetables or eggs. Golden milk is made by combining turmeric with warm milk and spices like ginger and cinnamon, and is a soothing and nourishing option. It’s one of my favorite ways to wind down during the day!
Benefits of turmeric for the skin
Turmeric can also be used topically as a facial exfoliant, which is what I’m going to share today. Because of its protective benefits against environmental stressors, turmeric can also help improve skin.*
**It’s important to note that it’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before adding any new supplements or products to your routine, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or are taking medications.***
How to make a turmeric facial scrub
You can buy a turmeric face scrub, but they tend to be quite expensive and may contain ingredients you don’t want to put on your skin. I’m a big fan of homemade beauty products because you know exactly what’s in them and can customize them to your needs and preferences.
Turmeric Face Scrub Ingredients
I LOVE homemade body and face scrubs, especially since I usually have all the ingredients on hand:
Coconut sugar: for a gentle exfoliation.
Almond oil (coconut oil, honey, and olive oil also work well): to moisturize and texture the skin.
Vitamin E: for its nutrients and healing properties
Essential oils: for fragrance! Just add a couple of drops. They are completely optional.
Turmeric: I love using this in scrubs because it can help with discoloration, as well as providing an antioxidant boost.
Instructions
Step 1
To create a simple turmeric facial scrub, mix 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup oil in a bowl. Add 1 dropper of vitamin E. Mix well.
Step 2
Add 1 turmeric capsule (or 1/2 teaspoon) and a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil. (Be careful with citrus-based oils, as they can cause photosensitivity. If you are sensitive to oils, you can always skip them for face scrubs and just use them for body scrubs or not use them at all.)
Step 3
Gently massage the scrub onto your face, leave it on for a few minutes, then rinse it off for a refreshed, radiant complexion. This is the same basic recipe I use for body scrubs.
The cute jars are from Amazon, and I keep the jars of homemade scrub in the fridge, so they are cool and super refreshing when I use them.
