Sevilla Food Recommendations – The Fitnessista

We’re sharing some of the culinary highlights from our trip to Spain. If you have any recommendations to share, let us know in the comments! My latest Spain roundup is here.

Hello friends! Happy Monday! I hope you’ve started the week off right. We had a lovely weekend. We celebrated my grandmother’s birthday (I’ll share some photos in Friday Favorites), enjoyed the Tucson monsoon rains (so good!), and got ready for a little adventure. I’ll be posting a lot more on IG Stories If you want to follow us there!

In today’s post, I wanted to share some delights from Spain. Guys! The food was amazing. Everything was fresh and delicious, even the fried options felt light and less greasy than their American counterparts, and I’ve already tried to replicate some of our favorite dishes here at home. While we eat out A LOT and try a lot of amazing places, I’m sharing our top picks from Seville below.

A fun note before we start: we like to eat. A lot. We are all food lovers, we all enjoy food, and we like to try EVERYTHING. Also, when we travel, we tend to eat one huge meal each day and then snack and eat smaller bites the rest of the day. (You can see an example of this when we went to Mykonos here.) At least three times during the trip, the waiter asked us to stop ordering. “Okay, that’s enough food.” LOL. Let it be known that we ordered a lot (you know, in the name of research) and ate it all. Maybe they are used to tourists ordering a lot of food and wasting it? Well, it wasn’t us.

Gastronomic recommendations from Seville and summary!

Ophelia Bakery:

We popped into this lovely little bakery because it had great reviews. It also had gluten-free options – it was so easy for me to eat gluten-free the whole time we were in Seville. (Staying gluten-free has made a huge difference in my autoimmune recovery.) I ordered a gluten-free toast with avocado, ham, tomato, olive oil, salt and pepper.

It’s worth mentioning that I almost never eat pork here in the States (I cook bacon for the family, but I don’t eat it personally) and I have not been a fan of pork my entire life. I ate ham every day we were in Spain and it was delicious.

Advice:

Located in the vibrant city centre, Chök offers an exquisite selection of artisanal chocolates and sweets made with precision and passion. Visitors can enjoy a variety of delights, from rich, velvety truffles and creamy pralines to decadent chocolate bars with unique flavours such as sea salt, chilli and exotic spices. Chök also serves hot chocolate, perfect for a comforting snack on a cooler day.

We didn’t take advantage of the hot chocolate, but we did have cupcakes and chocolates. I wanted to fill my suitcase with chocolate bars, but I had a feeling they would melt on the way back.

Mariatrufunca:

Mariatrifulca is a culinary gem situated on the banks of the Guadalquivir River in Seville, offering a dining experience as extraordinary as its stunning views. This elegant restaurant, with its rooftop terrace, offers a picturesque setting in which to enjoy exquisite Andalusian cuisine.

They offer fresh, locally sourced seafood and traditional Spanish dishes with a modern twist. The atmosphere is elegant yet cozy, making it an ideal spot for a romantic dinner or a relaxed lunch with friends, all while enjoying the beauty of Seville’s skyline and the view of the river.

Everything was a 10/10, but the highlights were the tuna ribs and beef tartare.

The Little Corner:

The oldest bar in Seville, El Rinconcillo is a must-visit for anyone exploring this vibrant city. Founded in 1670, this historic gem offers an authentic taste of traditional Andalusian cuisine. Stepping into El Rinconcillo is like stepping back in time, with its charming rustic décor, wooden beams and walls adorned with vintage bullfighting posters.

The menu is packed with classic Spanish tapas, such as Iberian ham, salmorejo and their famous spinach with chickpeas. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a glass of tinto de verano while you soak up the rich history and lively atmosphere that make Seville such a special place.

The highlights of this meal were the beef (shredded with a tasty sauce and carrots) and the spinach with chickpeas.

Beach food!

I have no idea what the name of this place is, but it is the Chiringuito Roche restaurant in Cadiz. One afternoon we rented a car and spent a day at the beach. At the restaurant we ordered a bunch of tapas to share. The best part was the paella, the sardines and the chilled Albariño wine.

The gourmet floor of El Corte Inglés:

It’s a complete experience in itself. AJs and Whole Foods never could. All the olive oil, caviar, amazing selection of whiskey and wine, multiple restaurants, chocolates (the best chocolate), breads, seafood… It’s incredible. El Corte Inglés is also a huge department store with everything you could want: entire floors dedicated to designer clothes, cosmetics, shoes, sports, toys, books and music. Just walk in!

Bar El Comercio:

If you visit Seville, you have to try the churros! They are totally different than the ones we have here in the States. They are light and fluffy, not covered in sugar, and come with a rich, warm chocolate sauce for dipping.

Our friends highly recommended Bar El Comercio to us and everyone loved it. Unfortunately, I didn’t try it, but I did drink a bit of the chocolate sauce 😉

From Rosalia:

This charming ice cream shop is famous for its wide variety of unique and traditional flavors, each made with high-quality, natural ingredients. I can safely say that we tried Rosalia’s during the 10 days we were in Seville. It is one of the best ice creams I have ever tasted.

Drinks:

If you go to Seville, you have to visit Bar Garlochi, also known as Church Bar. This bar, which is located inside a former church, reminded me of Baz Luhrman in the best sense of the word. It has a slightly creepy and over-the-top Baroque Catholic decor, including gilded angels, statues of Mary, antique chandeliers (and probably the original velvet curtains), and fake flowers. You just have to see it to experience it.

This post is already long, so I’ll be posting the Spain Q&A next Monday. If you have any questions you’d like me to include, let me know in the comments.

Have an amazing day and see you soon!

hugs and kisses

Gina
