Homemade Sea Salt Hair Spray

I’m sharing a recipe for homemade sea salt hair spray that you can make on the cheap (with better ingredients) and also add as a small gift or stocking stuffer.

Hello friends! How is your week going so far? I hope you are having a great summer!

For today’s post, I wanted to share a super fun and easy DIY beauty product: sea salt hairspray! You may already be familiar with sea salt spray, as it’s a great way to add beachy waves and texture to your hair. It can be used on wet or dry hair and makes you feel like you spent the day at the beach. Store-bought sea salt sprays can cost a fortune (around $40 a bottle), so making your own is an easy way to save some money. Plus, you can customize the ingredients to your hair type and preferences!

Today I’m sharing a homemade sea salt spray recipe that you can make at home. Save this recipe for the next time you’re looking for a quick and easy homemade hair product.

Homemade hair spray with sea salt

What does sea salt hair spray do?

My favorite use for sea salt spray is to create natural waves and add beachy texture. It also helps absorb excess oil. It enhances waves and curls and creates volume if your hair is feeling a little dull or like it needs a boost. You can also add some nourishing components, like argan oil and coconut oil for hair health.

What you will need:

1 tablespoon sea salt (The authentic Redmond salt is my favorite), or Epsom salt in a pinch.

2 teaspoons Argan oil (you can also use coconut oil or any of your favorite natural oils)

10 oz hot or warm water

Optional: 4-6 drops of essential oil. I used lavender, but you can also use any oil that won’t damage your hair, such as rosemary, pure rose, lemon, or tea tree. I order all of our essential oils at Prosperous market and also love NOW Foods (you can use FITNESSISTA to get a 20% discount).

Shake well and spray a few times on dry or slightly damp hair while scrunching for added texture and volume. Store in a cupboard for up to 3 months.

How to use sea salt hair spray

You can use sea salt spray on damp, wet, or dry hair. I prefer to use it on dry hair that hasn’t been washed in a couple of days to give it extra volume and life. If you use it on damp hair, don’t blow dry it afterward; just scrunch it and let it air dry. The great thing about this is that you don’t need any additional tools and it’s pretty foolproof. Just spray it, scrunch it, and enjoy. If you add essential oil to it, it can also give it a wonderful natural fragrance.

Does sea salt spray damage hair?

Like anything, I think moderation is very important. Sprays that contain salt can be a bit drying to the hair, so I would only use it 2-3 times a week. The good news about this spray is that the argan oil can help nourish and moisturize the hair, so it doesn’t dry it out as much.

Some tips to prevent damage:

– Don’t overuse heat tools or your hair. Don’t overuse hairdryers, flat irons, curling irons, etc.

– Add a teaspoon of aloe vera gel to retain moisture.

– Use a heat protectant when using heat tools. like this.

– Don’t over-wash your hair. Shampoo can also be very drying to your hair, as it strips it of moisturizing oil. I only wash my hair about twice a week and rarely blow dry it. Find my hair care tips in this post!

All in all, this is a very easy hack that you can do at home for very little money. Let us know if you try it! If you don’t have time to do it soon, save this post for a rainy day.

Tell me, friends: have you ever used sea salt spray? What is your favorite hair product? This is mine;I can not live without him.
