Healthy Fruit Popsicles Recipe (Just 2 Ingredients)

Inside: This summer, make these easy and refreshing homemade fruit popsicles for your kids, using just two ingredients.

Post updated May 23, 2024

Eating popsicles is a fundamental memory of hot summer days for many of us as children. And I’m pretty sure it will be for my kids too.

There’s nothing wrong with store-bought popsicles, but when you make your own popsicles, you can control what they contain, including how much added sugar (if any) they contain.

These healthy homemade popsicles are made with whole fruits and a little honey (or not!) and are a great way to:

  • Avoid food waste by using extra products
  • Offer your children a serving of fruit (many children don’t eat enough)
  • Do something together with your children.
  • Avoid artificial ingredients like food coloring.

Simple Ingredients for Fruit Popsicles

  • favorite fruits: You can use fresh, frozen (thawed) or canned (drained) fruit.
  • Honey: Feel free to skip this or swap it for maple syrup or another favorite sweetener.

How to Make 2 Ingredient Fruit Popsicles

Place fresh fruit (or frozen fruit that has been thawed) in a blender and puree until smooth. If the fruit mixture feels too thick and doesn’t mix well, drizzle with a little water, coconut water, or 100% fruit juice, like apple juice.

You can also strain out the seeds and pieces of pulp after blending, although I like to leave all that out.

This recipe calls for three cups of fruit, which makes about 1 1/2 cups of fruit puree.

That amount filled a little more than three of these large popsicle bags, but you’ll obviously go further with smaller molds.

Small white plates of fresh fruit such as blueberries, strawberries, grapes, pineapple and watermelon.

What different types of fruits work best?

I made them with fresh strawberries, blueberries, watermelon and pineapple. I also tried fresh peaches, thawing them a little in the microwave before blending them.

Taste and add honey as needed.

How much honey should you use?

Every fruit is different, so I suggested blending the fruit and tasting it before adding honey. Some fruit mixes may not need as much honey as others. Or feel free to skip it altogether.

You can also use small paper cups covered with plastic wrap, then insert a popsicle stick, place the cups on a baking sheet, and freeze.

Make a rainbow of healthy popsicles

  • To make red popsicles: strawberries, red grapes
  • To make pink popsicles: Watermelon
  • To make orange popsicles: oranges, clementines or orange juice
  • To make yellow popsicles: mango, pineapple
  • To make green popsicles: Green grapes (I added a handful of fresh spinach to mine)
  • To make blue/purple popsicles: blueberries, blackberries or black raspberries

Variations to try

  • Make a creamy version with fruit, honey, and milk (such as coconut milk, almond milk, or regular cow’s milk).
  • Make Yogurt Popsicles (here’s my easy recipe for homemade yogurt tubes)
  • Give the popsicles a vegetal touch by adding fresh baby spinach to the fruit puree.

ADVICE: To make frozen popsicles release from their molds more easily, run them under warm water or place them in a bowl of warm water for about 30 seconds.

What are the best popsicles in the store?

We love Outshine Popsicles, which taste just like their flavors because they contain real fruit. They come in a variety of flavors (our favorites are strawberry, lemon, and watermelon).
