After introducing a line of hair-proof wheelchair wheels, adaptive mountain bike company Bowhead is making another foray into everyday wheelchair components with the launch of rear wheelchair wheels, the 559 .
Like other Bowhead Corp. products, the 559 features high-end design and components inspired by the world of cycling.
“Designed for wheelchair users looking for unparalleled performance and customization, the 559 features a lightweight carbon fiber rim with a unique molded profile for easy installation of any standard 6-lug rim,” says Tatiana Place, product manager of Bowhead’s wheelchair division.
You can customize 559s with four colors of “speed rings” (covers that protect the hubs from dirt) and matching titanium bolts. “Repairable bushings with the highest quality stainless steel bearings ensure longevity, reliability and smooth performance,” says Place.
The 559s weigh 1.6 pounds and Bowhead sells them with a variety of hoop options, including Lignorim wood hoops and embossed stainless steel hoops. The 559s start at $1,999. For purchases and information visit Bowhead website.
