Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Recipe • Kath Eats

This apple cinnamon vanilla oatmeal recipe is creamy and fragrant like a cinnamon vanilla apple pie! Top with pecans and maple syrup.

In the early days of the blog, I used to make healthy apple cinnamon oats or pear oats all the time! Whenever I ran out of bananas, it was my go-to.

It’s true that I don’t eat as much oatmeal as I used to. Because my mornings are more focused on the kids than the old days. But I still love relaxing with a bowl of oatmeal on the weekends. Birch loves oats, but doesn’t like a lot of mix-ins, so this recipe is good for making a meal and enjoying whenever she wants (it makes a great snack!)

This Homemade Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal will warm you from the inside out! Ground cinnamon, fresh apples, rolled oats, and a garnish of walnuts and pure maple syrup will have you dreaming of your grandmother’s apple pie. I like a Honeycrisp apple for almost anything, but Granny Smith or Gala work too. (Here is an article about the best apples for recipes.)

I also have this recipe for Soft Cinnamon Apples that would be great on top too!

How to make oatmeal with apple, cinnamon

This recipe comes together on the stove in a snap. After sautéing the apple, you’ll combine everything in the pot and, like most KERF oatmeal recipes, stir until the oats reach your desired consistency.

Most of the time I make my oatmeal with half whole milk and half water for the perfect combination of creaminess and cooking time. You can use all milk or water if you prefer.

Feel free to use any plant-based milk to make it dairy-free or gluten-free oats if you need that option. You can also make this with steel-cut or instant oats; just cook them as you normally would and cook the apples on the side.

Oatmeal, cinnamon and apple recipe

Oatmeal, cinnamon and apple ingredients

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup of water
  • A pinch of kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 apple, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Chopped walnuts, maple syrup or brown sugar to decorate
  • Coconut oil (for cooking, you can substitute butter!)

Instructions

Step 1: cook the apple

Add a few teaspoons of coconut oil to the bottom of a pot and sauté the apple until caramelized and soft. You can also use butter here if you don’t have coconut oil.

Step 2: Add oats, milk, water, salt and cinnamon.

Add the oats, milk, water, salt and cinnamon and turn the heat to medium-high.

Step 3: Stir!

Stir frequently until the oats reach the desired consistency.

Step 4: Add Vanilla

I always add the vanilla at the end to make it more aromatic!

Step 5: Serve and Add Toppings

Divide among bowls and top with walnuts, a drizzle of maple syrup, and a light dusting of cinnamon to decorate.
