What is the Universal Standard Club (US)?
In the past, the most popular sale each year at Universal Standard (sizes 00-40) was Mystery Boxes. You would pay a fixed amount to get a themed box at a deep discount. There are no returns. Last year they announced that they were no longer going to make Mystery Boxes, but that they would have something better to replace it. The Club (US) was released in January 2024 and sold out in 5 hours. It was a pre-designed surprise box that you could choose to purchase at 2 prices: 1 non-refundable and 1 refundable. The refundable option is, of course, more expensive, but it helps alleviate some concerns for people who are afraid of getting things that don’t suit them.
You can see what I received in my January Club (US) box at instagram. It was a nice fine gauge knit and cupro top, nice flowy elastic waist pants with a satin tuxedo stripe and hem slits, and a black trench coat. He was very happy with all 3 pieces.
He February Club (US) Released a few days ago with more selection: there are several themed boxes to choose from, reminiscent of Mystery Boxes. The most popular Mystery Box from years past, Surprise Me, is back and is always the most popular and most discounted of the bunch. There are other paintings with new styles in songs like “Spring Blossoming” and “Je ne Sais Quoi”.
How is The (US) Club different from Mystery Boxes?
Honestly, the programs are very similar, but there are a couple of key differences that I can find between the two programs:
- Frequency: Mystery Boxes used to be twice a year. US Club falls monthly
- Choose your price: You can purchase at a standard (US) Club checkout rate and have the option to return items, or you can save an additional 30% off by agreeing not to return anything (non-refundable).
- Refundable option: Helps reduce the risk of not liking what you receive.
Is Universal Standard US Club a good value for money?
I think value is subjective for a lot of people, so it’s hard to answer. Are the discounts good? Yeah! But you trade in the option of your choice, unless you choose to pay the higher price for the refundable option. If you’re looking to build your wardrobe with high-quality classic pieces, I love boxes like these. Many pieces in my wardrobe right now are from previous Mystery Boxes. If you are very picky about your style and want specific pieces and colors, the US Club may not be the best program for you.
