In an effort to advance my wellness journey, it seemed right to experience the ultimate detox..a colon.
Have you ever reached the point in your wellness journey where you want to try something new or feel ready to take your wellness to the next level? That’s how I felt not long ago when I decided it was time to embark on my first colonization. As a writer with a passion for wellness and exploring alternative health practices, I couldn’t resist delving into this oft-discussed but somewhat mysterious area of detox.
Make no mistake: HUM’s Daily Cleanse has my heart, my liver, my skin, my lungs, and other organs, but I was interested in experiencing a detox on this level.
Buckle up as we delve into the world of colonics, a journey that promises more than just a physical detox, but also a deeper understanding of the body, mind, and the courage to embrace the unknown.
The reason for my colonic journey
Embarking on this adventure was not just about addressing physical health; It was a journey to the depths of my own comfort zone, pushing boundaries and ultimately embracing the unexpected. So here goes, I’ll tell you about my first-hand experience undergoing colon surgery, demystifying the process, addressing common misconceptions, and sharing the amazing insights gained along the way.
The beginning of my colonic journey
When I entered the quaint, warmly lit space of the wellness center, a feeling of calm washed over me, instantly relieving any lingering apprehension about my first colonic experience. The cozy atmosphere could best be described as an old familiar friend setting the stage for what promised to be an intriguing journey towards detox.
My therapist greeted me with a welcoming smile and quickly walked me through a brief overview of the procedure. Then she instructed me to take off my shoes and get on the “vibration machine.” This was unexpected. It was a platform-like machine that did what it said it would do: vibrate! “This helps get things moving,” my therapist said with a smile, before leaving me for about fifteen minutes. Surprisingly, the experience was eerily calm, forcing me to be fully present as I stood there, shivering gently, feeling my insides preparing for the transformative journey ahead.
I knew I was making the right decision by trying this as I had had many conversations about colonics with a friend who swears by them monthly. In any case, with a knowing look, my therapist (Desiree) suggested a quick trip to the bathroom, explaining how the vibrating machine had its own way of putting the body into action. And true to her words, a sudden impulse arose that prompted me to follow her advice before returning to the cozy treatment room.
The Movement before colonization
Dressed in a gown reminiscent of a hospital gown, whose open-back design was a stark reminder of the vulnerability inherent in this wellness journey, I lay on the table ready to begin, literally. After a few moments of privacy, the therapist reappeared, indicating that the time had come. Once again, she patiently guided me through the procedure, ensuring I was fully prepared as we embarked on this transformative path to wellness.
The colon
Desiree advised me to start with my knees bent and feet firmly planted on the table, a position designed to encourage the body’s natural release, a small but significant detail that highlighted her attention to holistic wellness. Although Desiree was delicate and quiet, she was a realist and candidly shared that her early experiences with colonics did not always yield immediate results for several reasons. She emphasized the importance of a series of sessions to unlock the full spectrum of benefits and then reassess and transition to a maintenance regimen.
With a nod of understanding, I followed her instructions, turning on my side as she deftly inserted the tube that is inserted into the rectum and is connected to another tube that is connected to a closed system. This route (the closed system) is designed to offer precise control over water pressure and flow, a personalized touch that distinguished this experience from more standardized open systems. To my surprise and comfort, Desiree stayed by my side throughout the entire process, providing me with unwavering support, education, guidance, and good conversation. Throughout, she expertly navigated the nuances of the procedure, from facilitating the release of gas bubbles to adjusting pressure levels in sync with my body’s signals (and me telling her I was ready for a release), a testament to personalized care and attention. to the detail inherent in the closed system approach.
During the colon
Over the course of the session, approximately 45 minutes, Desiree proved to be not only a skilled therapist but also a source of knowledge about digestive health. She shared information that really shaped my understanding of bowel movements and their importance in overall well-being. In addition to waxing poetic about the importance of regularity, Desiree highlighted the ideal frequency of multiple daily bowel movements, dispelling common misconceptions about the need to strain, a practice that can lead to unwanted complications like hemorrhoids. And one wants that. I certainly don’t. Desiree’s words resonated with a profound truth: the rectum is an involuntary muscle and forcing it to act is not the way.
Beyond the mechanics of elimination, Desiree talked about the critical role of diet in supporting healthy bowel habits, and she didn’t just talk about fiber. She informed me that too much caffeine (I’m an avid coffee drinker) can dehydrate your intestines and have a negative impact on your regularity. Then boom! I felt a subtle shift within me, and in a moment of revelation, I experienced the initial release, a sure sign of progress. The good thing about the closed system is the transparency and the fact that you can see what comes out. This is not for the faint of heart. In that moment, I felt a great appreciation for the body and its intricate functioning.
colonic knowledge
I also learned that old stool can make a home in the colon, trapped inside the pouches, and that the gentle power of colonic water can help release those particles. Finally, I learned from Desiree that when the colon or body is full of waste, it can create mental confusion. I thought to myself: There’s that gut axis talk again. But he couldn’t deny it.
At the end of my session, Desiree said that you will likely have another release at the end of the colon when you go to the bathroom. Sure enough, it happened.
The colonist’s takeaway…
In the end, not only was I happy to have made it through the process without a hitch, but I also felt lighter, physically and mentally, and I wondered why I had waited so long to take this step on my path to wellness. I couldn’t think about the past. Instead, I looked forward and booked a second session with Desiree. I was so happy with the results and how I felt inside that I was convinced colon maintenance was part of my wellness journey. I have to be honest: it may not be for everyone, but it definitely was for me and I recommend it to anyone who has ever thought about it. Like everything else in your life, your intestines need to be healthy too!
