General description

Peer support services specifically aimed at contributing to suicide risk reduction are increasingly prominent in health systems and community settings. Such services can be used to address barriers to receiving proven interventions while improving hope, connection, recovery, and empowerment. Despite emerging research on the effectiveness and implementation of these models, there are gaps in research that could lead to missed opportunities to optimize them.

This two-day workshop will bring together suicide prevention experts with peer support to discuss relevant conceptual frameworks, recent advances in understanding what works and for whom, service settings, and characteristics of service users that inform intervention strategies. across the continuum of crisis, digital and telehealth services. applications, youth considerations, and equity considerations. The workshop will identify innovative advances and areas that need additional research as the field advances.
