UC Davis Health Leading Generative AI Collaborative

UC Davis Health, along with other University of California health systems, is leading a collective led by members from health systems, health plans, nonprofit associations, and technology and research partners to explore uses, pitfalls, and best practices in generative artificial intelligence.

The group, which has more than 30 founding partners, is called VALID AI, which stands for Vision, Alignment, Learning, Implementation and Dissemination of Validated Generative AI in Healthcare.

“By embracing open innovation and radical collaboration, healthcare organizations of all sizes can responsibly lead value creation from Gen AI,” said Ashish Atreja, CIO and chief digital health officer at UC Davis Health. , it’s a statement. “We now have the opportunity to co-create Gen AI science with our diverse partners in a way that could fundamentally change the way care and research will be delivered in the future.” By bringing together diverse perspectives, insights and insights, VALID AI will push the boundaries of AI technology implementation and ensure the responsible and ethical development of Generation AI, ultimately shaping a more equitable future for all, he added.

The VALID AI program revolves around a collective of five core values focused on bringing the power of generative AI to healthcare organizations and patients:

  • Vision: Create a cohesive strategy and shared vision to guide generative AI research in healthcare, aligning relevant parties, facilitating learning, promoting equitable access to generative AI resources, and accelerating implementation across all member organizations.
  • Alignment: Help our member organizations and partners align with common standards as they evolve and apply them internally with the most appropriate organizational frameworks and safe and equitable governance practices.
  • Learning: Aggregated cutting-edge research on use cases, implementation science, policy work, and industry standards from the US and around the world. This knowledge will be shared with our network of members and key partners through virtual learning sessions, executive briefings, in-person summits, an online portal, and an online forum for sharing ideas.
  • Implementation: Establish the collaborative AI testing environment to support member organizations with the integration, validation and implementation of generative AI use cases. The sandbox program will bring together startups, researchers and leaders focusing on generative AI in healthcare and members will receive support and favorable conditions for collaboration.
  • Dissemination: Share knowledge and science generated through collective efforts on a global scale by co-publishing white papers, journal articles and opinion pieces to promote innovation and enrich the scientific and business communities. An in-person “Generative AI in Healthcare Summit” will bring together CEOs, executives and leading professionals to discuss advances and share ideas.

“UC experts across its health system are excited to be a catalyst and collaborative force in bringing together leading academic health centers and industries for a shared purpose,” said Van Williams, vice president and CIO of the University. of California, in a statement. “It is critical to take this step forward in developing frameworks that will guide innovative and ethical uses of Gen AI.”

“The AI generation holds tremendous promise for healthcare, but requires guardrails to ensure safety and effectiveness,” Dennis Chornenky, chief AI advisor at UC Davis Health and CEO of Domelabs AI, said in a statement. “VALID AI will accelerate adoption through coordinated validation of use cases and alignment around best practices for AI governance and AI-enabled innovation.” Chornenky will serve as CEO of VALID AI.
