Harlem Public Health Lab Tops Out In New York

Nonprofit New York City Economic Development Corporation (New York) and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (New York) celebrated the completion of the Public Health Laboratory adjacent to the campus of Harlem Hospitala university hospital in New York.

The 10-story, 240,000-square-foot project includes a training laboratory for students of hunter school (New York) and fellows from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (New York), a community-use auditorium, and Harlem Express, a walk-in center offering same-day sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing services.

The building’s design features a cubic glass laboratory rising from a three-story masonry podium. The podium houses administrative and support functions and has a partial green roof.

The project team is composed Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (designer; Chicago) and Skanska (general contractor; New York).

The Public Health Laboratory is expected to be completed in 2025.
