The National Institute of Health Care Management (NIHCM) examines trends in opioid overdose in its recent infographic. Unsurprisingly, opioid deaths have increased dramatically in recent years, but may have plateaued in the last 12 months. Opioid-related deaths are most common among people of prime working age (25-54 years).
The NIHCM used data from the Extensive online data for epidemiological research (WONDER) data system maintained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), supplemented with interim death data from CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics Provisional count of drug overdose deaths.
